Unix and Linux are Operating Systems. You are either working on Windows when it boots up or Unix/Linux. You can't have them working simultaneously. Some have dual boots, but you load to either one, not both at the same time.

So, if your computer boots up to Windows, you're on Windows. Do you have a Windows START circle on the lower left of the screen, on the Tool Tray? If so, you have Windows Installed. You can Click on the START button, right click Computer, and Left click on Properties. That will tell you what version of Windows.

It depends on what you mean by "come together" The high end versions of Microsoft Windows (Enterprise, Ultimate) have a feature called Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications which is quite comprehensive. Alternatively, you can install UWIN or Cygwin which also provide you with a Unix-like user environment.

I see it not too odd.. e.g.when you grab a new smart phone are you immediately aware of what OS it has. Perhaps pinklemon has just gotten a new computer with some OS and is not aware of its specs. We're not all abundantly technical on the first day, or even a year.

I'm afraid I don't have any better ways to find out do you have UNIX or not, just wanted to encourage to ask freely.
