Syntax error in for loop

I am using simple for loop, but getting syntax error when I run the code

Code:
code 
 
#!/bin/ksh
pls enter number
read n
for(i=1; i<=n; i++)
do
echo $i
done

Code:
syntax error
 
+ pls enter number
+ read n
3
loop.ksh[4]: syntax error at line 4 : `(' unexpected

# 2

I tried below still am getting same error

echo pls enter number

yes I tried that as well still getting error message

Then you are probably using ksh 88. Try using:

i=1
while [ $i -le $n ]
do
  echo $i
  i=$((i+1))
done

IF loop syntax error

I am trying to run a menu option though IF loops. I keep getting errors not allowed the menu to be processed correctly. Currently it will accept the first 2 statements but then crash on the 3rd.
