Question Replace line of text in a file
I need to change the first line a file from

"HDR,{any_number}",,,,,

where {any_number} is incremental for each file

to

HDR,{any_number}

Can someone please suggest an easy way please

I don't understand exactly what you want to do. Could you post an example or two?

In the example I'm giving, I tested it with a text file name "file". You may need to rework this a little, but I think it might fit your needs:


cat file


"HDR,56",,,,,
"HDR,31",,,,,,
"HDR,66",,,,,
"HDR,59",,,,,

sed -e 's/\"//g' file | cut -d, -f1-2


HDR,56
HDR,31
HDR,66
HDR,59



If you need to, you can redirect the output to a different file.
