Moving multiple datestamped files (Linux)

Hello all,

I'm writing a script that will allow me to move files into a sub-directory for archiving. These files, specifically, are output files that result at the end of a process. The issue I'm having is that while moving files from one place to another is relatively an easy task, grabbing multiple files that have a datestamp at the end of the name is proving difficult to do. Here are some of the files I'd like to grab with my script:

Code:
loadeddata_May-12-2014_14:30:03
loepfilelog_May-12-2014_14:30:02
datafilelog_May-12-2014_14:30:03
datafilelog_May-06-2014_14:30:02
walterreed_May-05-2014_14:30:01
rockville_May-06-2014_14:30:01
takoma_May-12-2014_14:30:01
walterreed_May-12-2014_14:30:01

These output files occur daily so, as you can see, I need to be able to grab all of them at the same time and move them into my sub-directory. It has been suggested I could try wildcards to remedy the datestamps but I'm simply not sure how to go about doing this.

Any hints on this will be appreciated.

Rob

You present a list of sample filenames, but said nothing about how to select files from the list. If you want useful assistance, provide a useful problem description.

For starters, how would the solution select the files to be moved? Will it just move files from the current date? From yesterday? From the previous week? WIll a date range be passed to the script through command line arguments?

Be more specific. If you have attempted a solution, show us what you've done and explain how it failed.

Alister

If that's the case, then the only thing you need is pattern *.

In case you have other files that you don't want to move, have an expression that matches as closely as possible.
For example
Code:
mv *_[A-Z][a-z][a-z]-*-20[0-9][0-9]_[0-9][0-9]:* /path/to/archive/

An even closer match is
Code:
mv *_[A-Z][a-z][a-z]-*-20[0-9][0-9]_[0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9] /path/to/archive/
