Greetings and welcome!
Unless you really want to go UNIX I would put aside free-Bsd and download a liveCD or DVD like knoppix, like that you boot from the CD and you see for yourself, if you are ready to go further... Because further would mean to create a dual boot and install a linux or your freebsd and the configuration may not be all that obvious... So train yourself first with a liveCD, learn to use vi, look at the config files and come here ask questions...

Well... this is the way I did..
I bought 4 old PC's (30 euro each). Installed Ubuntu server, FreeBSD, Red Hat 6, Solaris 8. Connect and go! No VMware... lots of fun :-)

If you just want to 'try' a Unix type system a live Linux cd/dvd would be the way to go. However, if you want to learn FreeBSD and aren't sure about it you would probably be best to try it out by installing it in a virtual machine inside Windows. While Linux and Unix are similar, they are not the same thing. If you like it then move on to creating a 2nd partition on your computer and have a dual boot of both Windows and Unix.

EDIT: I missed your last post where you said you had multiple machines to use now. Ignore my advice and have fun with that.
