Unix Device Manager?

I am a complete noob trying to learn my way around Solaris. I need to learn it for work so I though the best way to do that would be to go ahead and load it up and play with it. I downloaded the latest version from the Sun website and put it on a box with an AMD processor and Via Chipset KM400. It installed fine, but I can't get on the internet. I used the ifconfig -a command and the only interface listed is lo0 which I believe is just the loopback. So here is my question: Is there a windows "device manager"-type thing in Unix that will show all the devices and drivers installed on the system? If not, how can I tell if the OS is even recognizing things like the ethernet adapter, and where can I find Unix drivers for the Via KM400, including the onboard NIC? Once I find those drivers, how do I install them? I am totally lost, if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Also, I start my new job in a couple of days and might not have time to order books etc. so if anyone knows of any online references that would be the most helpful. I will eventually of course be buying books to do more in depth study but in the meantime it would be great to get some tips to get me started.

Thanks

See this trhead - I checked the HCL again and still don't see it as supported.

Well I guess I'm stupid I googled it and found it here

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/jds/...ails/6329.html

but apparently this HCL is for JDS only and doesn't cover Solaris. Hey I said I was a noob. Well everything else seems to be working, so if I get one of the NICs from the Solaris HCL and install it, should that work? And also, does Unix or Solaris have a Windows "device manager" type thing? How can you tell what devices and drivers are installed on the system?

I tried to install Solaris, no go. Solaris seems to be extremely picky about the hardware it works on, so much so that I wouldn't precisely call it an x86 distro. Smilie
