Want to remove all lines but not latest 50,000 lines from a file

Hi,

I have a huge file which has Lacs of lines. File system got full.

I want your guys help to suggest me a solution so that I can remove all lines from that file but not last 50,000 lines. I want solution which can remove lines from existing file so that I can have some space left with.

50000. Number is not a concern I can change it. I want method how to do that.

You can start by looking at tail command...

tail command is just printing. I have to redirect output to a new file which I cannot cos I have no space left. I want a command which can just delete all lines but not latest y lines from existing file.

I dont know... normally people would redirect in a file somewhere else (You dont have just that filesystem do you?) where space isnt an issue then overwrite...
Im saying that because most editing utilities would create a temorary file in /tmp or /var/tmp... if you are that stuck you will have to do some cleaning up first then

And again, if you want serious help you should give relevant complete information like your OS (shell you use when relevant...) in this case an output of a df command etc..
