Question file name got cut when sending attachments using uuencode & msmail

I am using the following command to send a zip file as an attachment to my internet email-id.

uuencode | mail -s "attachment from shell"

Eventhough i have given the attached file as '', when i receive the mail in my internet email, the attached file has its name as '', but not as ''.
ie. _HIJ got cut from the name of the attached file.

I need the file name as '' in the receiving end also.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like it got chopped to 8.3 format (the filename is 8 characters long, then a dot, then the three letter extension).
Have you tired uudecoding it to see if it actually has retained it's filename? It's very likely that either the other Operating System, or your mail software (or site, like Yahoo) is displaying the filename like that...

If you figure it out, be sure to let us know...

Hi Livinfree , thanks for your suggestion.

When i sent the mail to my hotmail id, file name is coming fully ie. No problem.

But when i sent mails to my offical id(MSMail), file name got cut. ie So how to get the attachment name properly in my Msmail client?

I don't know. Maybe there's a way that I don't know, but it sounds like limitations of the mail client (MSMail)...
