Data lpq, lpr and printing problems

good day!

i would just like to ask for advice regarding an lp problem i have..

we currently migrated a GIS appl from sol 2.6 to sol 8 but maintained the same version of jetadmin (for the appl plotters and printers). we are able to print files on a printer but not on a plotter. the configuration of the plotter in the new server is the same with that of the previous server's (like in jetadmin's default printing language [hpgl], model, etc.).

what i don't understand is why we cannot see print requests queued to the plotter with /usr/ucb/lpq. output is "no entries" even if we had just submitted a request. our developer said that in the previous server when they submit requests (with lpr), they are able to check it with lpq.

all requests are added to the /var/lp/logs/requests file.

i believe there is nothing wrong with the plotter itself since the users successfully printed a Word document (part of troubleshooting) when they connected the plotter to a PC. also, we tried the plotter's (hp designjet800) troubleshooting tips as found in its manual, and the hpgl2 accessory card is functioning properly. BTW the error in the plotter is "ERROR PROCESSING JOB" - which the manual says it is having problems printing postscript and hpgl2 files. but we can't even print simple text files!

is there anything missing on the unix side? this plotter was regularly and successfully used before we migrated.

also, jetadmin shows that it is ready to plot. and on the OS side, it is available, accepting requests, idle and enabled.

can anyone please please help? thanks!

i hope i mentioned all relevant facts.

thanks much!
