Make directory with todays date format

Not sure why this is not working. Please advice:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

DIR=`date +"%m-%d-%y"`
echo $DIR
[[ -d $DIR ]] && mkdir $DIR

# 2
Old 07-31-2013
If the directory DOES NOT exist, you should create it.
Missing "!"

Code:
[ ! -d whatever ] && mkdir whatever

# 3
Old 08-01-2013
Or another way of looking at it:-
Code:
[ -d $DIR ] || mkdir $DIR

Whatever logic seems to suit you best Smilie
