Question Reading QNX created FAT ZIP drive in WIndows 7

Hi All,

One of our clients has an old QNX server system that writes history backups on ZIP disks. They then wish to take these back up ZIP disks, plug them into a Win7 box with an external ZIP drive and copy them across to an external Hard Drive.
The files can be seen on the Win7 box but wont copy across. On the Win7 PC the ZIP disk appears to be FAT (just FAT...no FAT16 etc) format. This is all the server software appears to provide format wise. Is there a solution to this to enable them to copy the files across or do we need to find them another solution?
Thanks in advance.

Windows definitely supports FAT... In what way will they 'not copy across'? What happens when you try?

The shelf life on these ZIP drives is limited, you may need something better when -- not if -- drives and media wear out.

Thanks for the reply Corona. I will have a look next time I am on site for the exact error but it something along the lines of it cant read the disk or the file or something. It did seem to be having trouble reading the file names also as the characters were appearing as mostly squares in Windows. I'll get back to you.
Thanks again.

Ok.....the details of the error:

Firstly when you open the zip drive in the WIndows machine(XP not Win7 - my bad) the file names are unreadable. The contents of the disk come up as follows;

Name = 'row of squares'.'row of squares(3 chars)
Size = 16 449kb (all files)
Date = 1/08/1980 12:08am (all files)

When you try to drag the files across to the PC you get the following error;
" Error copying file or folder. Cannot read from source disk or file"

The disk (which was formatted on the QNX machine) appears to be FAT to the windows machine. Any idea's?

Thanks.
