How to get new line in text file?

Hi ,
I have text file and i'm not getting new line after the end of records.
Please help me with unix command..

Try
a) searching these fora
b) printf "\n" >> textfile
# 3

I am able to see the records in new line but when open the file in note pad the records are in a sigle line

Ok, so when you open the file in Notepad, all the records are in a single line, correct?
So what do you mean when you say:

How do you see those records that are correctly displayed (new lines)? cat file, maybe?

These are the UNIX forums, Microsoft Notepad is a Windows product.

UNIX text files end lines in \n, Windows expects lines to end in \r\n. They will look fine if you open them in Wordpad instead.

Thanks for help..!!

Now I am able to see the records in proper line.
but the first line which contains the column name is not get seperated from the second line Rest all the lines look good.
ex:
em_id;emp_name;salary;address5000;xyz;10000;qwerty
5001;aqs;12000;wqwerty
5002;sds;11000;dfjgsdj

Try sth. like unix2dos on the unix side. Or, use a decent editor on the windows side. In order to examine your first line problem, post the output of od or hexdump of that file.

Reading text file, comparing a value in a line, and placing only part of the line in a variable?
