How to sort find results

Hi--

Ok. I have now found that:

find -x -ls

will do what I need as far as finding all files on a particular volume. Now I need to sort the results by the file's modification date/time.

Is there a way to do that?

Also, I notice that for many files, whereas the man for find says ls is supposed to display the modification time, it only states the date:

May 12 2005

Is there a way to get it to display the full time stamp for the file?

Thanks Smilie

Jeffrey

Try this
=========

ls -lt `find ./ -name "EL*" -print`

Displays all the files starts with EL

Thanks

I see what you're saying.

Unfortunately, when I then use it for the "/" find, it comes back that the argument list is too long.

I think the best thing is to use

find -x / -ls | sort

to do this, but I'm not sure what options to use with sort to get it sorted by modification time.

Jeffrey

Hi--

I'm actually trying to find all the files on a particular volume. This, when run, only seems to find files with "EL" as the beginning of their name... is that not what it's supposed to do? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. Smilie

I think you could skip the '-ls' option. Just use this:
Code:
find <path> -x | xargs ls -lt

Hm. All I seem to be getting is output like this:

ls: /Applications/Adobe: No such file or directory

Also, what is xargs?

Thanks Smilie
