Sharing a network mount, preferably with NFS

Hello,
I would like to share a 9p (Plan 9) passthrough/share to a VM via NFS (using a guest as an NFS server to share a directory from the host)

At the moment I am getting the error message: 'exportfs: /share does not support NFS export' when running exportfs -r on the guest, and the client is being refused a connection. I would assume this is because you cant 're-share' a share, similar to if I wanted to share a directory mounted from another NFS share. (although I have heard unreliable sources say this is possible).

Is there a way round this?

I have checked the NFS server works for other directories. I have also tried putting the 9p share inside another directory and sharing the outer directory (in case the system could be fooled by a fool), this removes the error and allows a connection, but the inner directory is empty, as if the 9p share is not mounted. (which it still is, at least on the guest)

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

By '9p', do you mean Plan 9? What OS is your guest?

Yes it is plan 9 (have updated post), sorry I probably should have been more clear. The guest and host are Debian wheezy 64bit.
