Lightbulb DNS server - /etc/resolv.conf file issue

Hi,

Am trying to configure DNS server and trying to keep the information in /etc/resolv.conf file as:

Code:
search server
nameserver 192.168.0.10

when i restart the network service with #service network restart, resolv.conf file is changing as:

Code:
nameserver 192.168.0.10

search server - info is getting removed.

This is keep on happening.

OS: RHEL6

Please help me with this issue. Your help is much appreciated.

I don't know why it happens,
but your first line seems to be wrong anyway.
It is
Code:
search mydomain otherdomain...

And can be omitted if there is no otherdomain and mydomain is specified elsewhere.

Try in this way...

Code:
#vi /etc/resolv.conf
		search  india.com
		nameserver  192.168.0.1

Restart the service : -
Code:
	#service named restart

Enable the service permanently : -
Code:
	#chkconfig named on

Test the DNS : -
Code:
	#dig sun1.india.com	
	#dig -x 192.168.0.1
	#nslookup
	#ping sun1

A change in resolve.conf (DNS client) is immediately active - no need to restart network.
And no need to start or restart a named (DNS service)!

I have configured all the necessary files(/etc/named.conf, /etc/named.rfc1912.zones, /etc/named/named.localhost, /etc/named/named.loopback). But still getting the following error. Any inputs please?

I am new to unix. I have edited the /etc/resolv.conf. It shows domain name ip address ip address These are the same ips of the dns I use for windows. Still I get no name resolution on the internet. I can ping external ip's is there anything else I need to check? (1 Reply)
