Please use code tags when posting code fragments or data samples.

Check if you have control characters in your file.

You can verify this by running:
Code:
cat -Ev good_day_1.txt

OR
Code:
od -c good_day_1.txt

If you do have them in your file, then fix your file first by running dos2unix or tr
Code:
dos2unix good_day_1.txt

OR
Code:
tr -d '\r' < good_day_1.txt > output.txt; mv output.txt good_day_1.txt

Cool! it's working!!!

What i did was first convert the original good_day.txt to unix format by running
Code:
dos2unix good_day.txt

then I ran your original awk command like this
Code:
awk '/\"$/{ORS=RS}!/\"$/{ORS=FS}1' good_day.txt > good_day_1.txt

now, the records in good_day_1.txt appear exactly the way I want them. Smilie Smilie
