Data Start Up and Shut down

I've never been on a Unix machine so please be easy on me!!!

I need to create a step by step process for the Unix start up and shut down process.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I am new too. This is what I did. You have to be root and on that physical machine (not in Exceed) and type this magic word.

If you are talking about the levels for a unix server... here is a page on the tru64 site that describes the steps... hope it helps..

If the link doesn't work,, search on +unix +boot +levels on under support.
