Backup Filesystem
Hi,

I have been asked to backup a LINUX filesystem (directory structure and contents) and do not know how to achieve this. I am presuming that this will be required on a scheduled basis going forward but do not have clarity on that at the moment.

Can anyone assist in anyway on this?

Q1: Do you have a backup/restore utility?

Q2: Backup on what device?

Most of what you want to achieve hinges on answers to the questions of vbe, butpart of the answer can be given right now:

Read carefully the man page of cron (enter man cron and/or man crontab in a shell). If there are questions left just tell us and we can answer them.

On my pc, I use mozy, and free mozy on my laptop, for quick light backup offsite, and a usb terabyte for local backup with fast bulk restore. The terabyte came with backup software, so one wonders if there is LINUX stuff on there, too. Check mozy and other Internet backup sites to see if you can hook up to them. JAVA runs on everything, after all. Unless you like tape . . . .
