Yes, but it is possible to run a real shell in Windows.

Are you using a shell, or just Windows CMD?

This depends on having gunzip and grep available of course:

Code:
for %%C in (L:\System1\SailLogger_20130118*.* L:\System2\SailLogger_20130118*.* L:\System3\SailLogger_20130118*.*) do ( gunzip < %%C | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )

%%C when in batch file or %C on the commandline itself.

Thanks you. I tried this:
Code:
U:\>for %C in (L:\System1\SailLogger_20130130*.* L:\System2\SailLogger_20130130*.* L:\Syst
em3\SailLogger_20130130*.*) do ( gunzip %C | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )

It returned (partial exerpt - there were same errors for System2 and System3
Code:
U:\>(gunzip L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013000.tlg.gz | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )
gunzip: L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013000.tlg: Permission denied
U:\>(gunzip L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013001.tlg.gz | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )
gunzip: L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013001.tlg: Permission denied
U:\>(gunzip L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013002.tlg.gz | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )
gunzip: L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013002.tlg: Permission denied
U:\>(gunzip L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013003.tlg.gz | grep 35=SailErrorNotice )
gunzip: L:\System1\SailLogger_2013013003.tlg: Permission denied

Do you know what might cause this or is there a workaround ?

Try gunzip < file | grep, not gunzip file | grep.

That may not work in windows, though. Another option is gunzip -c file | grep

Thanks again for guiding me through this.

Here's my original grep:

Code:
gunzip -c L:\System1\SailLogger_20071019* L:\System2\SailLogger_20071019* L:\System3\SailLogger_20071019* | grep 35=Order

This grep will not work. Can you show me the complete command line that you think I can try ?
