please check your .login and .cshrc files. i think c shell uses these two files to set user preferences.

Quite right but then the syntax given to load variables differ and so his environment settings for oracle will not work.. the simplest is to ask the sysadm to change your default shell to what is ksh syntax: /bin/ksh or /usr/bin/ksh, but I think bash or sh will always be cetter to csh unless you master this shell or write c programs as main activity...

Yea I'm used to using .profile and .kshrc and setting variables and aliases that way. See if the SYSADMIN can change it and it should work from there. Your /home/atgdev/.profile is what's called when you login.
