System looses network connection

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem. I have SCO 5.0.5 installed on a system that I am using 3c905b (3 Com) network card. This system is always powered on. After no certain time period this NIC doesn't work. I can't ping to this system from any other machine or vice versa. I have noticed as well that terminal 1 locks at this point. I checked the /usr/adm/messages file to see if the system is writing a message of some sort about the error but nothing. If I reboot they system everything is good for a certain time period and then it goes down again. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I was wondering why you put exactly the same message as this post ? Did you look to see if you have the latest drivers?

Did you actually check your messages file for errors?

Is the IP statically set or assigned by dhcp? Have you checked to see if the host retains its IP settings after it has failed? Have you ensured that the driver module isn't being unloaded by something like a cron job? Is the NIC still picked up by lspci after failure? Does restarting your network scripts solve the problem or must you cold-boot? Have you tested using an identical NIC in its place?

I used information from the post because it is the exact problem I am having and YES I have checked my error log and there are no entries.
I am new to Unix and do not know how to check if I have the latest drivers for my NIC card. How do I check that?

Did you find at least some answers to the questions I posted?

The host does retain its ip address, i must cold boot to get the system to work again. and I have tested an identical NIC card.
How would I check if the driver module is being uploaded by something?
