PATH for c libraries
Hello,

I met a problem when running a java program. When I did the debugging:

srna/ExeFiles/linux$ ldd patman
    linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xf77b5000)
    libpopt.so.0 => not found
    libstdc++.so.6 => not found
    libm.so.6 => /lib32/libm.so.6 (0xf7778000)
    libgcc_s.so.1 => not found
    libc.so.6 => /lib32/libc.so.6 (0xf761b000)
    /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf77b6000)

Apparently there are problems with the three libraries.

libpopt.so.0 
libstdc++.so.6
libgcc_s.so.1

When I checked if any of the libraries are missing, they are all there:

/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpopt.so.0.0.0
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1

I have added this line to my .bashrc:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

and tried adding the line to /etc/ld.so.conf:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

The problem is still there. Did I miss anything? If so, what is this the correct way to tell the java program to find the libraries?
By the way, I am using Debian cluster environment with SSH access. Thanks!

Here is the message when I tried install:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

I am aware of the whole environment is based on 64-bits system, that's why I tried to set the environment separately in my .bashrc and /etc/ld.so.conf. Is there any other way to do it? Thanks again.

Maybe creating a symlinks of libstdc++:

 sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6

plus the others.

Replacing your 64-bit libc with a 32-bit one sounds very ill-advised.

No, I did not mean to replace the 64-bits librc. The reason is the 32bit librc are needed for another java program, which was not designed for 64bits system I believe. Not familiar with java so that I am seeking help over here. Thanks a lot!

vi - replacing a relative path with absolute path in a file

Hi, I have a file with about 60 lines of path: app-defaults/boxXYZ....... I want to change this to /my/path/goes/here/app-defaults/boxXYZ, but of course vi doesn't like the regualr :s/old/new/ command. Is there any other quick way to do this? Thanks ;) (2 Replies)
