Hello optimus

The easiest to circumvent the password thingy to is to paste lines into the /etc/passwd with a fixed string for the password (using a known 'default' password). Then you run a passwd -f afterwards for the user that he/she is forced to change password at first login

this is the solution..

I forgot about this option to GNU useradd: -p
You get an already-encrypted passwd, and use the -p <crypt'd passwd> option - along with the other options should almost fully automate this process:

useradd -d /home/$user -g users -m -k -p $passwd -s /bin/bash
passwd -f $user

check you man page for useradd and passwd to make sure these options exist on your system.
