list files
Hi ,
I want to list all files like *.C , *.h *.cpp in directory and subdirectory.
Take this each file (only file name should be taken) and pass it as argument to other unix command.
how do it sinlge command line.

How about this ?

Code:
find /parent/dir/to/search -name '*.[c|cpp|h]' | xargs stat

For each file, a stat will be done on the same.

hi,
Above command list all files , but all output is passed as one argument to command.
and also output has full path of file. I want only filename and comand should be executed on each filename.

Yes the output will have filename. That is because, you are searching for files which are inside the /parent/dir/to/search directory. The find returns the path to that file with reference to /parent/dir/to/search.

If you need only the filename on each of the find result, use basename for each result that is thrown.

 find /parent/dir/to/search -name '*.[c|cpp|h]' -exec basename {} \;

Hi ,
Following comand (as you mentioned) gave me correct file name . I want to pipe that filename to other unix command.
find /parent/dir/to/search -name '*.[c|cpp|h]' -exec basename {} \;

What unix command are you planning to use at the end of the pipe-line ?

nd /parent/dir/to/search -name '*.[c|cpp|h]' -exec basename {} \; -exec stat {} \;

Find files -> do a basename on each filename -> do a stat on each filename

I am not sure, whether two exec is very advisable to use.

Hi ,
I also tried with same thing. but using second time -exec command does not take output of basename , it takes again output of find command (i,e full path name). Any how I am using my customised "cvs checkout " which takes only one filename at a time.
