Please post what Operating System and version you are running. There is much variation in the find command.

Please post sample full hierarchial names of a few sample files so we can work out which part is the directory and which part is the name of the file. Do you really have filenames containing < and > characters?

Your understanding of find is a bit off:

find -H <root directory> -type <type> -mtime <time>

You're wanting to add a filter to find things that match filename_*.dat, and the most OS friendly way to do that would be with -name and it be case sensitive...

find -H /abs/archive/ -name 'filename_*.dat' -type f -mtime +61

...what am i doing wrong?? I need to find all files older than 30 days and delete but I can't get it to pull details for ANY + times.
