Are you positive the xyz process itself is still active when you execute ps -ef?

Is your script having magic line at the begining of the script ?
Add a magic line like this #!/usr/bin/ksh if it is korn shell
or depend on your shell and try again ...

Hi,

we have corba component installed and running but pid not showing
ex: we will start the corba component using ./omniNames -start 9988&

but when i use ps -ef|grep omniNames it won't shows

what could be the problem?

Okay ! I thought it was shell script.

Is omniNames a binary ?

As Jim said , that process might not be running.

In otherwords , it might not be started.

Put some logging if you do n't have any logging yet and see where it is failing to start.

One more question, is that corba process is functioning normally ( to receive calls or send calls ) and not showing pid in ps -ef ???

Could be that the process dies. Or maybe it execs something else. Or maybe it renames itself. Are you using a job control shell? The command "./omniNames -start 9988&" should then result in something like: "[1] 1234" where 1234 is the pid of the process. Without job control, if your shell uses bourne-like syntax then "echo $!" should give you the pid. Then do "ps -fp 1234" or whatever.
