uid ,gid value change


Present

/home/dsadm# id dsadm
uid=0(root) gid=0(root)

----------------------------------
needs to be

/home/dsadm> id dsadm
uid=23186(dsadm) gid=16284(gdstage)





Please provide the command/steps for the above uid, gid value change

Start by typing just id

Then explain a bit more: why dsadm is a root account?
There may be a good reason...
If it should not, well since you are still root, you just type:

chown dsadm:gdstage /home/dsadm

Then depending of your OS you will have to update the line about dsadm in /etc/passwd (different commands exist depending OS...). IF you are using NIS, it will be different also...

Please give OS (and version) and tell us if you are using NIS

for installing one tool in unix ,some one used root while installing,now as per client rules,we need to remove root to access that installed application and for accessing need user id to be dsadm.
