Question help needed regarding Journaling File system

Hi frnds,
i have ext3 filesytem with journal enabled..... i am interested to know more about it..like..how can i take a backup using journaling...
where the metadata is stored....all such stuffs


can anyone help plz

ext3 is layered on ext2. You can even convert a mounted ext2 filesystem to ext3. So all of the ext2 documentation is relevant. There is a book UNIX Filesystems by Steve Pate that has some info about both ext2 and ext3. Here is Tweedie's original paper in PDF format. And here are some comments about the code.

I am not aware of any snapshot capability with ext3 that would facilitate backups.
