Question telnet in for remote admin but not getting it

I have been using rsh, and vnc to access my computer from outside my network. I can do all the simple browsing's but when i go to start or stop apache httpd, or some other deamon commands I am running into problems. I log in as a standered user and the use % su to switch over to root. However, it seems that i cannot run some of the important commands in this fasion.

Any suggestions? What base step am i skipping here?

What's the problem you encountered? Perssion denied or couldn't find the command? or anything else?

If I am at my terminal I can login as root and run httpd I cannot run httpd if i login(remotely) as a normal user then use su to switch to root. I just relized that does not even work if I am at my terminal. SO my question is is there a safe secure way for me to acceses my computer as root remotely so that i can stop or start apache ro other deamons?

[macdonto@zoe macdonto]$ su
Password:********
[root@zoe macdonto]# httpd
bash: httpd: command not found
[root@zoe macdonto]#

Looks like a PATH problem. Try using "su -" instead to indicate that you want a full login shell, with the proper environment, etc.

Thank you that did it...I guess it did not understand that in man.

Thanks again
