colored/highlighted/bold matching pattern with awk ???

Hi !

Just wondering, is it possible to color or highlight or underline a matching pattern with awk ?
Or write it in bold, italic.....?

Hi
You can proceed in this way:
PHP Code:
awk -F'{ print "\033[1;31m:" $1 "\033[0m" }' /etc/passwd

You can also use tput
Code:
awk -v under=$(tput smul) -v un_under=$(tput rmul) 'BEGIN { print under "underlined" un_under } '

Thanks guys !

It's nice !

However, when I redirect the output to a file, is there any way to keep the color/underline when I open the file in a text editor?
