after awk-> format output

hi
i have a awk command with several querys....
Code:
awk 'FS="|""; print $4, $5, $6...etc....

$4 gives me the date 20120304
$5 is timestamp 101023

I want to format these in

Code:
2012.03.04 or 2012/03/04
10:10:23

but have no idea, if this is possible with format-parameters in the awk string.

thanks in advance
Jazzmatazz

Code:

$ echo "20120304 101023" | awk '{printf("%s.%s.%s %s:%s:%s\n",substr($1,1,4),substr($1,5,2),substr($1,7,2),substr($2,1,2),substr($2,3,2),substr($2,5,2))}'

hmm.. that works with the echo... Thanks itkamaraj !

i´m still working to combine the complete awk-command:

with
Quote:
cat '/tmp/FILE' | awk '{FS="|"; print $4, $5, $6, $7 ...etc.} | awk ' {printf("%s.%s.%s %s:%s:%s\n",substr($1,1,4),substr($1,5,2),substr($1,7,2),substr($2,1,2),substr($2,3,2),substr($2,5,2 ))}'
i´ve missed the entries for $6 $7......
