Help with scripty to read file line by line
Hi All,

I need to apply a command to about 40 progs which I have listed in a file called proglist. I tried xargs -n1 -I{} <proglist ssgt {} but the nature of the house written command doesn't like xargs.

Can someone help me with a basic ksh to read my input file line by line and apply a command to it?

Sorry that doesn't work. My coding is:
while read line
do
/usr/xpg4/bin/grep -f $line list2.txt >>list3.txt
done <various.txt

I want to find the contents of various.txt in list2.txt file and if they're found write them to list3.txt. When I run this script it's opening the 'various.txt' file and trying to apply each line as a command.

You don't need to read 'various.txt' line by line for this. Please check if the following command suffices:

grep -f various.txt list2.txt >> list3.txt
