UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

What itkamaraj has suggested me worked correctly.

I am using SunOS version 5.10
Using sh shell.

Now as above has worked for me, not sure why I am facing problem in other small syntax also.. Is this due to OS?
My simple if statement is now not working here:

DAY=$(date +%a)
if [${DAY}='Tue']; then
echo "Matching"
else
echo "Not Matching"
fi

[Tue=Tue]: not found

You are missing space characters round the brackets and the equals sign.

DAY=$(date +%a)
if [ "${DAY}" = 'Tue' ] ; then
     echo "Matching"

     echo "Not Matching"
fi

Usually we donot recieve such errors. I think its due to OS and its version with which i am not much familiar.
I am getting an error as below:

my code is:

     echo "Matching"
cp ABC$DAY ABC
else
     echo "Not Matching"
fi

Please post the output from this command which will show the basics of how your account is set up.

Maybe your account is restricted in some way or you have changed the value of $PATH ?

Thanks methyl but due to security reasons I cannot paste the output of env command. Can you suggest me to do something, if you like pls?
