UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I am trying to make a website work without having to type www. If I type www with the sitename it works. But if I type just the site name without the www, it does not work. How do I fix this? Thank you for your help

In what way does it "not work"?

Does it try to load the webpage, but doesn't give you the page you expected -- 404 errors, 500 internal server errors, redirects, apache default pages, etc -- if so, that's a server problem, not a DNS problem -- the server expects www.whatever.com and doesn't know what to do with plain whatever.com.

If you can't load anything at whatever.com, or can't even ping it, then it's a DNS problem.

As corona said, try pinging the site. what happens?

The site cannot be pinged it gives the same response at simply typing google in your url tab without the .com.
