UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

Hi friends,
I hope you are all fine and doing well. First of all, let me say that I love Unix with passion. But I have one query in my mind that is bothering me. What should I do, Unix System Administration or Unix System Programmering. Could you please tell me the difference between the two. And can a person be both a unix system programmer and a unix system administrator at the same time, can both of these jobs be done simultaneolsy, or they are totally different and one can only be specialist in one of them only?. And I love large unix systems, like Sparc and Ibm power etc, I hope one day I would be able to work on them. One thing that I am damn sure about is that I don't really want to do application programming, i.e. building applications or websites etc for clients, I hate that. But I love C and c++ languages, and unix shell languages. Could you please help me decide what I wanna do in future. I will really appreciate your wonderful ideas.

hm, I'd go with 'Unix System Programming'. because Programmer, in theory, can do all that Administrator can and more.

Based on your previous posts you have a bias towards programming, but may need further training.
My advice: Try to get certified in anything where you are proficient.


(basics) On your CV, learn how to spell IBM. Potential employers notice basic errors in a CV.

Sorry @gabam the more I re-read your post than I realise that you convey nothing which an employer would desire. (toned down version).

Your post reminds me of Stock CV from somewhere South of China. (We see a considerable number of CVs in our Company).

My advice (because you have tried). Get a native English techo-person to revise your CV. Get certified in anything where you are competent. Get your CV read by someone with native English with view to correcting any weird English language. Send your CV to IBM (I'm not joking because they are asking for new talent).

It is IBM, ofcourse, it was just a small typing error.

Thanks for your valuable advice, but I don't think I would need it. I have 7.5 band in IELTS and that's quite alot, it could even be compared to the natives of the language. I did all those mistakes because I was really in a hurry, but how come an intellectual like you did not understand that. Maybe you should think a little bit before passing judgements. It was just a post, I was not writting an application letter. Anyways, thanks for reminding me that one should be careful while writting and avoid those silly typing errors. I would have really appreciated you if you had given me some guidance regarding my question that I had put forward. But I guess you were very busy pinpointing my typing mistakes in the post rather than helping me with my decision.
