Help in division
hi,
The below commands result only the whole number(not giving the decimal values).
Code:
pandeeswaran@ubuntu:~$ echo 1,2,3,4|sed 's/,/\//g'|bc
0
pandeeswaran@ubuntu:~$ echo 1000,2,3|sed 's/,/\//g'|bc
166

How to make it to return the decimal values?

Try putting "bc" into the search box on this site.

Is it possible that you can post a clear script example that does not contain a completely pointless "sed" command.

please use this

$ echo 1,2,3,4|sed 's/,//g'|bc
1234

$ echo 1000,2,3|sed 's/,//g'|bc
100023

is this the output you are looking for ??

I think O/P actually meant:

echo "1000/2/3" | bc

166

But for some reason O/P has a resistance to putting quotes round string variables.

The actual "bc" command required is posted roughly once a day on this site. The O/P omitted to mention how many decimal places are required.
