hi
i would like to backup my OS
what is the exact command to do?
beside backup to tapes can i back up to a directory in another server?
will the command be the same?

Sure you can dump to another server files. You can mount the file first and then dump your backup.

#>mount serverbackup:/backup /mnt
#> cd /mnt
#> dump 0f backup.bak /root

This will dump the root directory to a file can backup.bak on a mountd directory on the serverbackup.

Yes it will be dump for linux Redhat and ufsdump for Solaris.

what does this command do?
dump 0f backup.bak /root

dump /root directory into backup.bak?
this will dump the whole OS into the directory?
