Replace VNC Access

hi guys

in my company some users need graphical access mostly to configure-install-manage IBM software VNC is enabled but VNC is pretty insecure... you know root always has access....

I would like to know options to provide graphical access in a more secure and alternate way.....

I am talking about Suse 10 SP2

thanks a lot

What do you mean, root always has access? Unless this is something specific to IBM VNC I hadn't heard it was particularly insecure.

I mean by root.... when the user opens VNC it gets a prompt password for VNC set by vncpasswd... ok after that they get the normal Suse screen for login asking for user and password.... that's why I mean.

Okay, I see what you mean: You want a remote login that goes directly to a specific user, or only allows certain users, not the generic login screen.

There must be a way to control VNC like that. Looking up docs.

It might also be something that needs to be done in the X server, not VNC.

ssh -X (PuTTY X11 forwarding if Windows) if you have a local X server (e.g. Xming if Windows... otherwise, you probably have one)... FreeNX or NX... those are reasonable alternatives.

Hello, I do agree with this last comment and it is the way I use to connect to servers from a Win machine, Xming.

For the VNC, I recommend to read also this post:
