One option would be to discard unwanted information from ls
Code:
ls -l | awk '{print $5 "\t" $8}'

I think the following may help you..

Code:
du -sh `pwd`/*

du --> for getting size
-sh --> size with Human readable format
pwd --> present working directory

Code:
du -sh /home/smilyface/version/*

also can be used.

How about this:
Code:
ls -1 <path> | xargs du -sk | sort -n

It will list path and size in a ascending order!
