password protect a CSV file: better solution than ZIP password?

Hi

We send *.csv with sensitive data to our customers. Our customers open those files with Excel.

A new requirement is that we password protect those CSV files.

I thought to pack them with ZIP and assign a password to the archive.

But Solaris 10 can't encrypt ZIP files.

Code:
$ zip -P test test.zip test.txt

zip error: Invalid command arguments (encryption not supported)
$ zip -e test.zip test.txt

zip error: Invalid command arguments (encryption not supported)

$ which  zip
/usr/bin/zip

$ uname -a
SunOS preamble-lu 5.10 Generic_139555-08 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-T6320

How would you do?

That means something Windows compatible?
Because I would use crypt command, I just tried between a file I generated on HP-UX:
Code:
 man ls >ls.ma

used crypt and scp the file to a solaris 10...
Works fine. but for Windows....

Sadly it needs to be Windows compatible. Even more troubles, the girls don't have Admin rights on their windows boxes.

*NIX only I would use openssl. But sadly can't

Code:

     toolkit

You can scp the file to some machine with zip that supports encryption, then encrypt and mail it from there.

Doesn't

- Solaris only environment
- Firewalls with closed port 22
- it's a dirty hack
