Preserving the timestamp while running gzip?
Hi guys,

I'm trying to unzip a file and rename it to another while preserving the original timestamp:
Code:
$ cat file.dat.gz | gzip -d > newfile.dat

My goal is to assign the file.dat.gz timestamp to newfile.dat.
I cannot use gunzip, due to various checks done with wget. Basically, I have to stick with gzip command.

Edit: Never mind, it was simple as pie. Smilie

$ touch -r file.dat.gz newfile.dat

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Side note, in case someone else has a similar problem: with a redirection it wouldn't be possible, as that information, along with permissions, etc., isn't transfered, only the files contents.
