I'm a bit confused as to why you would voluntarily take something on as a learning exercise, and then blindly accept the first given answer without question or without showing any interest in the solution (assuming it is).

I'm also curious as to why on the two previous occasions you've asked this question and had the threads closed, once by me, you didn't protest in the slightest...

Now I wish I hadn't answered. Not homework my ###, you'd even begged in the homework forum but couldn't be bothered to follow their rules well enough to not be closed.

I hate having to be paranoid about who I answer Smilie

i can assure u this is not homework i am 23 and have graduated university! just because someone is working from a list of rules and requirements doesn't instantly make them a school kid looking to cheat his homework!
and if i could have responded before the admin closed the thread i would have told them the same.
and i haven't blindly accepted this answer i will take the advice and try and work it into my work tomorrow as i said i will then reply with the appropriate response

i thank you again corona688 for your response and assure you that you haven't done my homework i put it in the homework section as the thread was closed within the script problems pages due to mods jumping to conclusions and closing the thread without asking me what it was regarding!

The question isn't where you are or how old you are. Things like job-interview questions also fall under the umbrella of 'homework'. What matters is whether this was supposed to be a measure of your knowledge -- something I'd have disturbed by giving you a canned answer. As a service to students, unix.com has to be extremely strict about this -- the alternative is to allow no student questions at all.

There are plenty of students out there who try every trick they can get to avoid doing work. Just today a sockpuppet was banned for trying to circumvent unix.com's anti-cheating measures. (whoops, I admitted it was homework -- better re-register and instantly ask the same question!) Please realize you've done a very good job of imitating such people -- posting in different venues, making new identical threads after mods closed your originals, posting in the homework forum but not disclosing what class you're in or where, etc. They do this just in the hope that someone'll answer them before the mods realize and catch up. Seeing this pattern of behavior and assuming you're asking about homework isn't unreasonable.

If this was a truly independent assignment worth no marks and not just a slight mutation a quiz question, it doesn't qualify. I think.
