RHEL6 is a subscription based distribution. If you have not paid for a subscription, you cannot download additional packages from RHN. If you want a free equivalent version, use CentOS 6.

RHN Subscription Delayed?

Clearly your purchasing department is not keeping up with your system administrators. If you need to install additional packages from the RHEL6 distribution that you have installed, but do not yet have the subscription details that have already been purchased, you can always create a local repository using the installation DVD and nothing more than a simple webserver, such as Apache.

Step 1> Copy contents of RHEL6 ISO to a sub-directory on your webserver. Eg. /var/www/html/repos/rhel6/

Step 2> Start webserver and ensure the directory from step 1 is served. Eg. http : //queenannes.revenge.com/repos/rhel6/

Step3> Create a new repository config file on your various servers that need packages. Eg. '/etc/yum.repos.d/queenannesrevenge.repo', with contents:
Code:
[queenannesrevenge]
name=Blackbeards Network Repository for RHEL6 $releasever . $basearch
baseurl=http://queenannes.revenge.com/repos/rhel6/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0

Step 4> Issue a 'yum install man-pages' and watch the magic happen.

Next step is for you to convert your farm to CentOS so that the slow-boats in the purchasing department are no longer shivering your timbres.

Arrrrr,
forq
