Help! EBCDIC format to ASCII
Hi everyone,

I have a 70MB EBCDIC file, with record length 102, block size 32742 and IBM standard label.

I commanded
Code:
dd if=input file of=outputfie ibs=32742 cbs=102 conv=ascii

but I still don't get a viewable file under ASCII.

Can anyone told me what's the problem?

Do I need more parameters about my file or I commanded wrong?

iconv -febcdic-cp-us -tascii <INPUT >OUTPUT

Or just try:

dd if=inputfile of=outputfie conv=ascii

unfortunately iconv doesn't work,

conversion from `EBCDIC' is not supported

same problem, still most code is gibberish..

Try:
Code:
iconv --list

to see what encodigs iconv supports.

thanks again...
now it improves a lot...

it shows:

illegal input sequence at position 2870

will keep on searching for that..

Does the input data contain any packed decimal?

Hi jgt,

the file has IBM standard labels
Record Length: 102
Blocksize: 32,742

Is this what you mean by packed decimal?
