Help for Unix Newbie

Hi all,

1. How are we going to call .cmd files which is in window under Unix Environment?
2. Is there any equivalent command in Unix for "start" which is available in Windosw?

Thx very much.

you can install the ssh-server on the windows machine and issue the below command from the unix machine. ( Cygwin includes an ssh server.)

you need to setup the "passwordless ssh" (google it) FAQ: Password-less SSH -- Windows to Linux

Code:

ssh user@windows-box c:/path/to/batch.cmd

Window - Linux to run .cmd files

Hi itkamaraj,

Thanks. However, my company is not allowed to install any software. From the suggestion from you, I notice that I need to setup passwordless ssh. I don't think I am allowed to do so. Is there any other way for me to run my .cmd files in Unix system?

Thanks very much. Appreciate your suggestion!

There is no harm in setup passwordless ssh. Ask your system admin to setup it.

Window - Linux to run .cmd files

Hi itkamaraj,

I am following the ways mentioned in the link. However, I am having this problems:

a. After generating public and private keys, I saved it in a folder. -- puttygen.exe
b. When I use putty, it pops up the following message:
Trying public key authentication. Key is of wrong type (Putty SSH2 private key)
May I know what's wrong with this? Actually, I still don't understand what is the purpose of generating public and private key.
c. I have downloaded pscp.exe. However, when i double click, it does not prompt me any GUI. Is it because of pscp.exe that I have downloaded got problem?

Thanks. Sorry for having so much problems.
Thanks.

You generate a public key and a private key, put the public key onto the machine you want to connecct from and if done correctly will allow you to ssh onto the box (or login via an ssh connection) without needing a password.

This could be an issue with your system's configuration and you need to check it was done right, also check putty's event log as it may give some indication of why the authentication was rejected.
