5 Unix things you wish you knew as a beginner...

I am trying to get better at UNIX, and I wanted to post a question so I can take some advice from more experienced programmers. What are some things that you wished you knew (while you were learning UNIX) that you think every beginner should know?

Beside learning you should keep in mind that UNIX is a massive and comprehensive Operating System that includes many aspects includes but not limited to Networking,Scripting,Storage Management and so on .
Investing time in learning one UNIX variant virtually means that you are able to deal with other UNIX and Linux flavors or even VMS OS , MAC or virtually any other command line based OS
