UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I dont understand why permission changes are being such a pain in the bum even after I manually changed them through properties....Anyone know what to do here because even thoguh in properties the permissions make me local admin over in the Cygwin its not working..

im trying to upload a set of records into a data base.......but the problem here is that no matter what I try....I am not being added to the etc's passwd list....anyone know how I can find my SID?? From what I know Microsoft assigns a "label" in the form of a serial to each person and thats called SID but I dont know how to find mine any idea?

Did you already try running mkpasswd and mkgroup?

yup I did...Its reallly weird the permissions are messed up big time because some of the files I have access to while other I can only access if I manually change their setting from properties to me as full control over them....I really have no clue what to do....only 2 options, figure out how to register me in etc/ passwd file or reinstall Cygwin and all the binaries I spent time installing....


How do you find SID? It might help.

How did you run these commands (complete command line, in [CODE] tags, not a picture)? Because by default, they only look at the local users/groups, and ignore any domain users.
