Ethernet card problem...

I am an extreme novice trying to learn Linux. I have redhat 9 installed in a computer I built specifically to install and learn linux. I have an asus a7v8x-x motherboard with the realtek 10/100 mbps ethernet card. I also installed a Jaht adapter jn-1110r32c ethernet card. I cannot get the internet to work. When starting up I get an error stating card could not be detected. I do not how to configure card, check for problems, etc. What should I do to resolve this?

when I go to the network setting, the jaht adapter jn-1110r32c shows up as "via vt86c100a rhine-II pca" on eth0 and the realtek, which is part of the asus motherboard, shows up as r8169 on eth1

On start up, when I change network card to eth0, it says (paraphrasing) no link could be made. check cable. when I use eth1, it says card not detected.

maybe:
write: modconf and you should search drivers for your card and add to kernel, and you shut off other cards. maybe is a collision.
