unix login welcome message
When I telnet to a unix server someone put a stupid message there:
Last login: Mon Nov 15 16:59:13 from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.8 Generic Patch October 2001
YO! <-- message
Mon Nov 15 17:19:05 EST 2004

How did they do it and how can I find out who did it?

Have a look at /etc/motd.

If it's happening after /etc/motd is displayed it could be an "echo" within one of your shell initialisation files.

If it's not within /etc/motd, post which shell you're using.

it's not in etc/motd. I am using ksh. Plus it's happening no matter which of 9 servers I login into.

Have a look in /etc/profile, /etc/kshrc, $HOME/.profile, $HOME/.kshrc

And none of the scripts I mentioned above are sourcing any other scripts (i.e. . /some/script)
