Linux on custom hardware

I would like to configure a bare minimum Linux with internet browser on a system with Flash & RAM (but no harddisk or any other nonvolatile storage). Please advise.

That sounds a lot like a wireless router, except a wireless router has no display: Flash ROM, and no real storage to speak of.

Please describe your system in more detail.

Addendum to Corona688's question: if there's no nonvolatile storage, where do you boot from?

The OP said Flash. Other options are PXE booting + NFS. Truly diskless workstations are out there.

It's a fun project based on a TI OMAP processor platform. My goal is to develop an internet browser device with ultra-fast boot up. I guess removing any non necessary OS components will do the trick to achieve instant (seconds?) boot up.

Should be doable. They use these OMAP processors in cell phones sometimes, and they have browsers.

Now, easy? that's another question entirely!

As for removing operating system components, er, what operating system components? This thing has no hard drive.
